TOKYO Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport stayed on a collision course on Friday when they both booked semifinal places at the Pan Pacific Open.

Top seed Hingis survived a scare against home favorite Ai Sugiyama 6-0 5-7 6-2, while world number two Davenport blitzed Croatia's Iva Majoli 6-2 6-0.

Anna Kournikova had a comfortable passage into the last four as she overpowered France's Anne-Gaelle Sidot 7-6 6-2.

Power Hitter Davenport was simply too strong for Majoli, not allowing her opponent to find a rhythm, leaving her in the cold with a series of service aces.

Swiss Hingis, gunning for an unprecedented third straight Pan Pac title, dominated Sugiyama in the first set, hitting both flanks with relentless accuracy and taking the set to love.

Hingis said she had "a loss of concentration" after going 4-2 ahead in the second. The mental lapse combined with Sugiyama's strong play led to the second set slipping away from her as the Japanese broke Hingis three times.
